This is a true 1/2 scale Colt SAA, not 47% like an Uberti. This may look like another fancy engraved & gold wire inlaid 47% scale Uberti Colt single action army revolver, but it is not I assure you! It is bigger in every dimesion than the Uberti Colt single action army revolvers. See photo 2 for a size comparison. 6 9/16" long overall with a 3 13/16" barrel. This compares to a 6 1/8" overall length on a Uberti with a 3 9/16" barrel. Unlike an Uberti, there are no investment castings in this piece. Each piece has been machined from a solid block of steel. Master craftsman workmanship both on the making of the miniature and on the engraving. This may be an unmarked Tom Weston, or maybe a Ray Hutchens. There are no markings other than a cryptic marking on the underside of the ejector rod housing that looks link a T with a J bottom with the addition of a F horizontal, see photo 14. This piece is expertly engraved in B or C coverage with numerous gold wire inlaid bands. It will chamber a .22 short rimfire cartridge, but has a center fire firing pin. No serial number. The one line Colt barrel address and the frame patent dates look to be roll stamped under magnification, not engraved. There are no caliber markings on the triggerguard or barrel. Engraved nickel silver front sight. Early pinched, black powder frame, with the bullseye ejector rod button. Beautiful high polish blue finish, except for the hammer, trigger, ejector rod, and cylinder pin which are gold plated. Two inlaid gold bands at the barrel muzzle, two more just behind the front sight, two more on the barrel just ahead of the frame, two at the rear of the cylinder, and a single gold line outlining the lower and rear frame on each side. Just a great outstanding piece and I can't believe someone would make a piece such as this and not sign it! If you know the maker, I'd sure appreciate any information you can give. More info soon hopefully, as I've sent the photos to several noted collecters and I'm waiting to hear their responses. This is reportedly the very first miniature firearm ever made by master miniature maker Larry H. Smith of Florida. It is a Wesson swivel barrel derringer in 2mm pinfire. 2 3/8" long overall with a 1 1/4" barrel group. One side of the barrel group marked L.H.S. The serial #, 1, marked on the bottom of the bird heads grip frame. Bright fire blue finish with walnut two piece grips. This is the only one I have ever seen with a blued steel frame and with a removable sideplate on the left side of the action. Cased in the original Larry Smith walnut casing, English fit, with dark red velour lining. The casing includes the original cleaning/ejector rod, and and a brass lift top tin containing eight 2mm pinfire blanks. The top of the tin stamped L.H. Smith, Fla. U.S.A, in two lines. The bottom of the casing stamped -L,H.-, Smith, 1, in three lines. Here is an unusual Uberti Colt Single Action revolver prototype made for the 125th anniversary of the National Rifle Association. Blue and case colored finish with nice varnished walnut grips. The rifled 7 1/2 inch barrel lazer etched with an oval panel on the left side "NRA 125th Anniversary". The barrel is open and unplugged. The pine crate type case lazer marked with the NRA 125th anniversary logo on the lift off lid. Also included are 6 dummy rounds with the headstamp "NRA .45 COLT". This is one of two that were made as prototypes and presented to the NRA for approval, and were to be presented as a thank you gift to those making large contributions to the NRA. The NRA decided not to buy any, making this an extremely rare and collectable variation. The other example is in the NRA Museum. Additional photos available upon request.
